SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Just another day ‘til Christmas and you know what that means. The clock is ticking to check off that wish list for shoppers and sightseers.
Like the carols that come around each year, the sights and sounds of downtown Salt Lake City have become synonymous with the season.
“It’s pretty much tradition,” Brad Williams said. “Every year you gotta come downtown to see the temple lights.”
Williams and his family were among countless visitors to clog the sidewalks, streets and parking lots on Monday night.
“It’s just a beautiful atmosphere,” said Carina Amaya who is visiting the state from California.
But the experience is only part of what brings so many to Temple Square and City Creek Mall. With less than two days before Christmas, more than one parent, sibling or child is on a deadline.
“Last minute shoppers are coming out,” Amaya said near one of the entrances to City Creek Mall.
“We might get a couple things,” Matt and Ashley Morgan admitted, after initially saying they had checked off everyone on their list.
“We do have a couple last minute shopping things to do, which is scary,” Williams said.
Fortunately for Williams, the hustle and bustle may provide just the right amount of cover to snag those last-minute deals undetected by his children who were with him.
“I should be able to gets lost in these crowds,” Williams said.
No matter what visitors came here to buy, see or hear, there’s one thing many are bound to walk away with.
“A little Christmas spirit before Christmas starts,” Williams said.
