WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – A fire that destroyed six vehicles at a car dealership is being called suspicious by officials with the West Valley City Fire Department.
Battalion Cheif Bridger Williams said crews responded to the fire near 3500 South and 4000 West around 4 a.m. Sunday.
Firefighters at the scene said they saw 20-foot-tall flames and hear explosions before calling for additional resources.
Williams said the fire appeared to be suspicious because of freezing temperatures and said none of the vehicles had been driven for hours after talking with the dealership’s owner.
“He told me this is not an uncommon thing,” Williams said. “It happens probably once or twice a year at these places where maybe a customer is not satisfied with their vehicle or maybe they’re just trying to get out from underneath it and come in and try to find the solution on their own.”
The fire occurred in an area reserved for customers getting services such as body or warranty work, according to Williams.
Officials said all of the vehicles were customers’ vehicles waiting to be serviced.
The incident is under investigation and no cause for the fire had been given by officials as of Sunday night.
No injuries were reported during the blaze or while crews worked to extinguish it.
