SLC Volunteers Package Over 400 Boxes Of Food For Homebound Seniors

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Volunteers, including Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall and members of the Salt Lake City Police and Fire departments, helped package 432 boxes of food during the city’s 18th annual day of service with the Utah Food Bank.

The event took place on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which was designated as a national day of service by Congress 25 years ago, according to the Corporation for National and Community Service.

Officials said the boxes will go to homebound seniors across Utah.

City officials said the Utah Food Bank is responsible for distributing food to 29 Utah counties and distributed 45 million lbs. of food in 2019.

Utah Food Bank President & CEO Ginette Bott said they were assisted by 107,000 hours of volunteer time last year.
