Domestic Violence Suspect Arrested After South Jordan SWAT Situation

SOUTH JORDAN, Utah – A man accused of holding his girlfriend hostage overnight and assaulting her has been taken into custody after a SWAT situation, according to Lt. Matt Pennington with the South Jordan Police Department.
Pennington said the victim called police Saturday morning after being able to get away from the suspect.
Officers arrived at the home near 10400 South and 2950 West around 10:30 a.m. and attempted to make contact with the man, who had barricaded himself inside the structure.
The South Valley SWAT Team arrived around 1 p.m. and began efforts to clear the home, Pennington said. After several hours, the suspect, who was identified as 38-year-old Ruben Chacon, was located in the home’s attic and he was taken into custody.
Police said Chacon was booked into jail on multiple charges, including domestic aggravated assault, unlawful detention, domestic criminal mischief and domestic assault.
South Jordan Parkway was closed between 3200 West and 2700 West during the incident.
Pennington said the victim does have some injuries, but none were critical.
