Crews Could Stay On Scene Of Bridge Fire For Multiple Days

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – A bridge fire that started Thursday is still burning Friday morning.
The incident began near the Rocky Mountain Power Plant in the area of 1100 West and 200 South. Crews responded at approximately 9 p.m., though it’s unclear what time the fire actually began or how it started.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, they discovered a part of a railroad bridge was on fire. According to the Salt Lake City Fire Department, the bridge is constructed of weather-proofed material that’s hard to put out, so crews planned to be at the scene for a while.
Officials suggested firefighters could remain on scene for a couple of days in order to make sure the blaze is completely extinguished.
Some train tracks were destroyed and will have to be replaced, authorities said. However, adjacent tracks appear to be in working order.
The incident is under investigation.
