High Winds Expected In Davis, Weber Counties

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Authorities are warning residents of Davis, Weber and northern Salt Lake counties to prepare for strong wind gusts overnight.
The downslope wind potential is expected to begin Monday afternoon with some gusty winds, according to the National Weather Service. Monday night will likely bring stronger gusts that could continue until noon Tuesday.
A high wind watch will go into effect for the area at 2 a.m. Tuesday. East winds are forecast to be between 25-35 mph, with gusts up to 65 mph.
Officials said the strongest winds are likely to occur in downslope-prone areas from 5 a.m. through 10 a.m. Tuesday.
A High Wind Warning is now in effect for Davis and Weber counties from 2 AM overnight through 12 PM Tuesday.

Centerville, Farmington and areas near the mouth of Weber Canyon will likely be most affected.
Officials said drivers should expect significant crosswinds along I-15 in Davis and Weber counties as well as the northern portion of Salt Lake County. Crosswinds are also expected along U.S. Highway 89 and Legacy Parkway.
Residents are urged to secure loose objects on their properties, such as lawn furniture, trash cans and trampolines.
The last major downslope wind event happened in September 2020 and caused widespread damage in northern Utah with hurricane-force winds. NWS officials said Monday night’s winds are not expected to be as strong or prevalent as that storm.
