HERRIMAN, Utah — A family in Herriman was hoping that someone could identify the burglar who entered their house while they were sleeping and stole numerous valuables.
Chessa Crane said she, her husband and two children were sleeping around 3:40 a.m. when their surveillance cameras captured the thief pull up in a SUV and enter their main floor.
“When he came in my house, you could kind of see him, like, look around, and then he bumped the chair and touched the counter,” Crane said.
Crane said the man got away with her ID, credit cards and other belongings.
“My purse was gone, my work bag was gone and then the diaper bag was gone,” she said. “I was just like, ‘someone broke into our house!’”
She awakened to text messages and fraud alerts from credit card companies after the suspect, presumably, used cards to make numerous purchases at area stores in the early morning hours.
“He took a lot of things of value, but my kids are safe,” Crane said. “We’re safe.”
Crane said she was disturbed that a stranger would enter her house and be feet away from her sleeping children.
“It just made me sick,” Crane said. “It’s really terrifying knowing that someone got into your house and you didn’t even know.”
The suspect spotted on video was described as a man with dark hair, wearing a white mask, long-sleeved light blue or light gray top and khaki or possibly orange bottoms.
Herriman City Police Department Commander Zach Adams said officers were actively investigating the case.
Anybody with information was asked to call dispatch at 801-840-4000.
