BOUNTIFUL, Utah — Officials with the Bountiful Police Department said one man was hospitalized after he confronted two suspects who were allegedly breaking into his car and shot at him multiple times.
Assistant police chief Dave Edwards said the shooting happened Tuesday morning near 100 West and 2700 South.
The man has since been released, but police said they’re looking for the people who were caught on camera, prowling the neighborhood before opening fire.
Police have asked for the public’s help identifying those four people seen on surveillance, checking out the cars on a driveway, before pulling a gun and firing several shots at the owner.

“That’s like really unsettling,” said neighbor Alyson Kennah.
It’s not the scene neighbors expected to wake up to in this Bountiful neighborhood.
“This is a very safe neighborhood, generally. Nothing’s ever happened like this,” said Kennah.
Kennah didn’t hear the shots, but jumped out of bed when police arrived.
“We got a pounding on the door just before 5 a.m., and then our doorbell started ringing, too, and we were like, ‘What the heck,'” said Kennah.
Less than an hour earlier, two people — including one wearing a vest — had walked up to her neighbor’s driveway and started checking out the cars.
“He got a notification from his doorbell app that there was activity going on, so he ran out in his drive to try and confront them,” said Kennah.
The chase abruptly ended when one of the suspects pulled out a gun.
“Almost immediately, when he gets to the same area where the suspects are, you hear gunshot after gunshot,” said Asst. Chief Dave Edwards with the Bountiful Police Department.
Nine shots were fired in total.
The homeowner was shot once in the leg. At least two other bullets flew toward Kennah’s home.
“Coming out and seeing bullet holes in the garage is really unfortunate, especially when we have two little kids at home,” said Kennah.
Bountiful Police said the two suspects were in a group of four and were involved in other vehicle burglaries in the same neighborhood overnight.
“You never know who you’re confronting outside, or what their level of fear is, or the risk of them going back to prison — those kinds of things that could motivate them to shoot,” said Edwards.
“It’s always scary when thieves and bad guys are armed,” said Kennah.
Kennah’s neighbor is home from the hospital, but police have asked for the public’s help to find four suspects.
“Obviously with little kids at home, you want to know that they’re caught,” said Kennah.
Police said these people should be considered armed and dangerous.
