SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah — An estimated $50,000 in outdoor recreational equipment and tools were stolen this past week in South Salt Lake.
Those items were stored inside a trailer that was stolen in broad daylight within a secured facility.
For Ryan Robinson, who owns the trailer and everything inside it, this has been a frustrating situation.
“Don’t think that it is safe, just because it is locked behind a gate,” said Robinson. “They jimmied the gates.”
This trailer was stolen out of South Salt Lake IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY.
It’ll shock you to hear how many times the owner has been stolen from in the last year. Story on @KSL5TV #ksltv #saltlakecity #utah pic.twitter.com/bpJbueHMTE

He told KSL-TV he never expected someone to break through two locked gates to steal right outside his office.
“My sandrail, my dirt bike and a bunch of tools,” he said.
Those were the items inside the trailer that two people stole near 3600 South and 500 West around 4 p.m. Saturday.
In the surveillance video, you can see a dark grey pickup truck — a 2020 Dodge Ram 550 with a large flat bed — driving away with the trailer, which has the license plate number: MSL8524.
“Just lots of memories that I have and had hoped to make a lot more,” said Robinson.
Robinson said he’s particularly sad to see his sandrail go, since he spent eight years working on it with his sons.
“I didn’t have insurance on any of it because it is a custom thing,” he said. “It isn’t a manufactured side by side that insurance companies know the value of it.”
Police have turned to the public for help, especially since this isn’t the first time Robinson has been the victim of thieves.
In the last year, a dirt bike, catalytic converter, tools and another trailer were stolen from his office and home.
“It does surprise me and saddens me. The community is better than that and has been, but I don’t know if I am surprised by anything anymore,” said Robinson.
Officials with the South Salt Lake Police Department are looking for Tyler Leon Shepard and Sidney Dawn Helm, who they said are people of interest in the case.
Police want you to call them if you know where they are.
They’re also looking for the pickup truck used to take the trailer, adding that it was stolen.
