SOUTH JORDAN, Utah — A large police presence shut down a portion of 10400 South near Bingham High School in South Jordan following a two-car crash and shooting Monday night.
KSL-TV spoke with Darren King, who said his wife was driving four teenage girls to ask boys to the upcoming Bingham Girl’s Prep Dance.
While they were heading east on 10400 South, a car that was traveling in the westbound lanes swerved and hit them head-on.
The driver of that car, a woman, said she had been shot twice. Passengers called 911 and that woman was rushed to the hospital; authorities said she is expected to recover from her injuries.
Now, police are looking into who else may have been involved in this crash.
“We are looking for two parties who may have left the car,” said Lt. Rob Hanson with the South Jordan Police Department. “At the time we didn’t know if they were in the car or not. So, when we get a report of an accident we have one person who is transported, one passenger who is saying this is what happened and witnesses who say that two people had fled or ran from the vehicle – that’s what we are looking for two people who may have left.”
There was a second passenger in the vehicle, but she was unharmed. King’s wife and the four teenage girls were also uninjured.
Police said they’re looking for the shooter or shooters and trying to determine what exactly happened before the crash occurred.
Drivers were advised to use an alternative route while investigators were on scene, and the incident remains under investigation.
