CEDAR CITY, Utah — A 39-year-old man has been taken into custody after he allegedly fired a handgun in the air while he was waiting in the drive-thru line at a Cedar City Taco Bell.
Police said Douglas Labonte was booked into the Iron County Jail on multiple charges, including intoxication, felony discharge of a firearm and reckless endangerment.
Officers were dispatched to the restaurant on Sept. 23 after witnesses reported the gunshot, which they said was fired in the air.
“Witnesses described the vehicle and provided a license plate number which led officers to respond to the residence of the registered owner,” police said.
According to court documents, Labonte fired another gunshot toward his front porch when officers arrived at his home.
A search warrant was obtained and officers said they located two guns — one in Labonte’s vehicle and another on his front porch.
In their probable cause statement, police said Labonte was uncooperative with officers, “swayed and stumbled as he walked, slurred his words and smelled heavily of an alcoholic beverage.”
Labonte’s blood was taken to provide evidence of intoxication, according to court documents.
