Two seriously injured as train strikes car

MILLARD COUNTY—Two people, including a child, were seriously injured after being hit by an on-coming southbound train.
According to Utah Highway Patrol, a white Ford Explorer traveling westbound on 1000 south in Delta just after 4:50 p.m. Although there was a railroad crossing with a stop sign, the car was hit after failing to yield to a southbound train. The car was pushed off the road to the south and rolled until it came to a stop, upside-down.
The driver, an off duty Millard County Deputy, was able to self-extricate while the passenger, his 14-year-old daughter, was extricated by first responders. Both parent and child were flown by helicopter to an area hospital.
At the request of the Millard County Sheriff, the Utah Highway Patrol will be conducting the crash investigation. According to UHP, while serious, they are hopeful the victims of the crash will survive.
