Salt Lake City police investigation home invasion, shooting

SALT LAKE CITY — One man was taken to the hospital after being shot in the leg during a home invasion in Salt Lake City.
Lt. Valencia with the Salt Lake City Police Department said the shooting happened around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday at an apartment near 754 North and 900 West.
Police say three men broke down the apartment’s door, and one of them shot the 24-year-old victim with a handgun after he went to check out the sound.
The victim was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening.

Police say the three suspects were described as young men, and they fled the scene before officers arrived.
“This appears to be an isolated and targeted incident and there does not appear to be any immediate danger to the community,” SLC police said.
Investigators said they believe the shooting and home invasion are connected to a carjacking incident that occurred earlier Wednesday in West Valley City.
