TOOELE COUNTY, Utah — Two people are in critical condition following a crash on southbound state Route 179, also known as the Midvalley Highway, according to Sgt. Cameron Roden with the Utah Highway Patrol.
Around 2:20 p.m. the driver of a 1995 Subaru was heading southbound on S.R. 179 and attempted to turn left to Pole Canyon. A Dodge Pickup pulling an empty horse trailer was traveling northbound on S.R. 179 and struck the Subaru as it was turning left in a T-bone style crash.
The Subaru was significantly damaged and the driver had to be extricated. The horse trailer attached to the Dodge Pickup became disconnected and crossed all southbound lanes before stopping on the shoulder of the road.
The driver of the Subaru and the driver of the Dodge were both flown by different helicopters to Salt Lake area hospitals.
Northbound S.R. 179 at Pole Canyon Road is estimated to be closed for a time while the scene is documented.
According to Roden, the driver of the Subaru was 17 years old. No other information about the victims’ identities was available.
