SALT LAKE CITY – On Saturday afternoon, two separate second alarm fires were called in the Salt Lake area.
According to Salt Lake City Fire Capt. Shaun Mumedy, the first fire was a possible shed fire that spread to nearby a house, trees and power lines at 1100 S. 900 West around 2:56 p.m.
Mumedy said the fire was contained before it could spread to other buildings.
This fire was called in as a second alarm because of the red flag warning, Mumedy explained.
When Mumedy spoke to KSL TV, this was still an active fire, and they will provide more details later.
The second fire happened at an apartment complex on 55 North Center Street around 3 p.m.
South Davis Metro Fire Battalion Chief Mike Hansen said two apartment units were involved as the fire spread into the attic.
Five families are displaced, with Red Cross providing relief.
No injuries were reported but a cat died in the fire.
Hasen said damages were “extensive” with multiple units “destroyed.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Crews from Salt Lake City, Farmington and Kaysville fire departments were called in to help.
