65-year-old man killed after moped hits car, SLC police say

SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City police responded to the scene of a fatal crash involving a moped and a car Thursday afternoon.
According to police, the male driver of the moped died after hitting the car near 555 E. 400 South around 4:33 p.m.
Detectives believe the moped struck the car while traveling westbound on the sidewalk on 400 South. The car was stopped and waiting to turn out of a business onto 400 South when the moped hit it.
The moped driver died at the scene of the crash. Police later identified him as 65-year-old Joseph Filippi.
The occupants of the car were unharmed and working with police.
Salt Lake City police said this is the 18th traffic-related fatality in the city for 2022.
