Vandals break windows of 8 Latter-day Saint meetinghouses in Washington County

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Utah — A total of eight meetinghouses for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were vandalized overnight in Washington County.
Police confirmed to KSL Wednesday afternoon that six churches in St. George and two churches in Hurricane had their windows broken.
According to Officer Tiffany Mitchell with the St. George Police Department, the first report came in around 12:30 a.m. and the last report came in at 3 a.m. Wednesday.
The churches affected are located at:
- 3891 E. Desert County Parkway
- 1750 Foremaster Drive
- 3167 E. 1140 South
- 1279 S. 3000 East
- 2500 E. 350 North
- 1068 W. Chandler Drive
Mitchell said the vandals were in a light-colored Honda passenger car.
“Go do something better with your time,” she said of the vandals. “Go be the change, not the problem.”
After hearing about the vandalism in St. George from SGPD, Dan Raddatz — public information officer for the Hurricane Police Department — said officers started checking their churches.
He said between 2 a.m. and 2:30 a.m., they discovered two locations had been hit — one with one window broken and the other with two windows broken. He added that the exterior pane of glass on double pane windows was broken, leaving no interior damage.
Those locations are:
- 270 S. 700 West
- 658 W. 1500 South
Raddatz said the timeline for the vandalism in Hurricane is unknown because they discovered it after the vandals had already fled the scene, adding that they don’t know if it occurred before or after the vandalism in St. George.
