WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — One man is in custody Saturday night after police said he caused multiple crashes in Salt Lake County and hit a pedestrian in the crosswalk, killing him.
The first crash occurred at 3100 S. Redwood Road in West Valley City.
The West Valley City Police Department said in a 9:48 p.m. tweet that the pickup truck did not remain on scene, and instead left the area, heading south.
When the truck got to 4100 South, it went through the intersection and struck two people in the crosswalk — a man, who died from his injuries, and another individual, who sustained minor injuries.

In addition to hitting the two pedestrians in the Taylorsville intersection, the pickup collided with a second vehicle, causing a chain-reaction crash involving a total of four vehicles.
Police said the injuries from those crashes range from minor to critical.
Following the crashes, police said the suspect got out of the truck — that was listed as stolen — and attempted to run on foot.
Police said Taylorsville officers in the area heard the call and were able to chase him, catch him and put him in custody.
The suspect in this case abandoned the pickup truck, which is showing as stolen, and attempted to flee on foot. However, officers who were nearby on another call captured the suspect.
