40 firefighters respond to 3-alarm fire in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY — Forty firefighters responded to a fire at the M & M Reception Center early Thursday morning in the area of 300 West 1500 South.
Salt Lake City crews were called to the event space a little after 1:30 a.m. Thursday. Someone reported smoke coming from the building.
Battalion Chief Brady George said when they arrived to the scene, the fire had gone through the roof.
He estimates damage at about $100,000.
He said the inside contents of the building were destroyed, as was the roof, but the structure remains standing. The building west of M & M Reception Center has minor structure damage, George said.
KSL spoke with the owner of the event business, who said she was planning on hosting a baby shower this weekend. She said she didn’t have insurance on her business, but the owner of the building does.
She believes the fire was started suspiciously. Fire officials we spoke to said they continue to investigate the cause of the blaze.
300 West was shut down for about two hours, but will not impact the Thursday morning commute.
