Police find suspect hiding behind sleeping child’s bed

OGDEN – An Ogden neighborhood is on edge after police say a man on the run tried to hide out in a child’s bedroom.

It all start early Monday morning in the 900 block of 20^th Street when police received a call of a man with a gun.

When police answered the call, the woman told police a former roommate and two other men showed up at her door and they began arguing. She told police, the man, now identified as David Lyman Rowley brandished what appeared to be a gun, then took off in a white Honda civic.

Ogden police located the vehicle several hours later and a short chase ensued.

Police said Rowley ditched the car, but footprints in the snow led officers to a nearby residence, where the homeowner was able to tell officers Rowley was hiding in the house.

The whole ordeal is causing residents in this neighborhood to be more alert.

“Honestly, if that guy would have broken into my house and it has been my daughter’s room, he would have been shot,” said neighbor, Patrick Green. “What happened is unacceptable.”

KSL-TV spoke with one homeowner, who has lived in the neighborhood for about a year and a half. She said the neighborhood is mostly made up of families and small children and nothing this scary has happened before.

She told KSL-TV she will make changes in her own home following Monday’s alarming experience.

“It really scares me and I think we’re going to Home Depot today in the next 20 minutes to get some major locks and put them on all the windows and doors,” homeowner Ruth Ellis said.

Police have not indicated whether Rowley had any connection to the home in which he was hiding.

Police later found an air soft handgun in the abandoned vehicle.

Rowley is now facing several charges related to the incident.
