75-year-old man buys drinks at Orem McDonald’s before vanishing

OREM, Utah – Officials released surveillance video showing the last known sighting of a 75-year-old man who has been missing for a week out of Orem.
“It’s been a week now with absolutely no contact whatsoever,” said Lt. Craig Martinez with the Orem Police Department. “As you can imagine the family is very, very worried.”
“Everything is just so out of character, so out of normal, just so bizarre. That’s what’s most troubling for the family is there’s no comfort zone here; there’s nothing we’ve seen before.”
Robert Lynn Flygare was last seen on April 25 walking in the area of University Parkway and I-15 in Orem, near Utah Valley University. Surveillance video showed him holding a cardboard cup holder containing two drinks purchased at a nearby McDonalds.

“It’s kind of concerning to us because he’s carrying two drinks when he’s by himself,” Lt. Martinez said. “So we anticipate that was going to meet at least one other person probably down near the underpass there by the train tracks.”
Martinez said police found the same type of cup holder near the train tracks that run along the west side of I-15.
“We’re canvassing every area we can think of,” said Lt. Martinez of the search efforts. “We’ve walked many, many miles of the tracks.”
A family member and police said Flygare was known to help homeless people in the area.
“I see my dad taking somebody a drink just as a kind act,” Flygare’s son, Kelly, said about the video. “That’s something that he did often.”
Investigators said they weren’t many other clues. The 75-year-old husband and father of five didn’t have his wallet on him—so there haven’t been any financial transactions to track.

Flygare was healthy and an avid walker, sometimes walking up to 12 miles a day, police said. He was last seen wearing a light-colored, button-down shirt and blue jeans.
“This is very uncommon and not like him, especially to lose contact with kids and his grandkids,” Lt. Martinez said. “He had some family events coming up recently that he knew were there and that had been planned and was excited for them.”
