TAYLORVILLE, Utah — Unified Police Department says a young teenage girl was killed in a crash in Taylorsville, following a busy night of complaints from community members.
Police say residents called them about the SUV she was in multiple times overnight. First, for a reckless driving call around 10:30 p.m., and then for a suspicious vehicle call just after midnight near 45th S. in Millcreek.
UPD says as officers approached the vehicle on foot, the driver fled westbound on 45th S. Police did not chase the car.
Not too long later, Unified Police Department says officers were called to this deadly crash between Atherton Drive and 1175 West on 45th S.
They say the 18-year-old driver, who police have now identified as Casey Ziemelis-Cook, ran from the scene. He was caught at a nearby golf course before being taken to the hospital and then booked into jail on multiple charges upon his release.
Police say three others inside were taken to the hospital in poor condition. We’re told another woman inside the car was OK. Police have not yet released any of their names.
After speaking with those in the other vehicle, police say it appears the driver of the SUV intentionally swerved into their car. The two people inside the other vehicle had injuries that aren’t life-threatening.
As of 6 a.m., crews are still working to clear up the scene of the deadly crash. Eastbound between Atherton Drive and 1175 West on 45th S. is still closed.
