Police Searching For Driver Who Crashed Into Salt Lake City Home

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Police are searching for a driver who crashed into a home and then took off on foot.
The crash happened in the area of Belmont Avenue and 300 East at approximately 6:30 a.m. Thursday.
Salt Lake City Police said the driver failed to turn left or right on Belmont Avenue, jumped the curb, barely missed a tree and drove directly into the house.
The crash didn’t cause any major structural damage to the home, and no serious injuries were reported.
The homeowners were inside at the time and were already awake when they heard the crash.
They said when they came out of the home, the driver was outside the car. He apologized several times and then blamed his female passenger for falling asleep. After the homeowners called 911, the driver said he had to call his dad and fled on foot.
He left his passenger at the scene.
Police haven’t said what caused the crash, but there could be a number of contributing factors.
“Just with the morning conditions and the fog, slow down,” said officer Jeff Perea. “I mean intersections, red lights, traffic signals all that.”
“If they were going a lot faster it could have been a lot worse,” he added. “Definitely.”
Police said once the driver is caught, he will face hit-and-run charges.
