Little Cottonwood Canyon Scheduled To Reopen After Avalanche

ALTA, Utah – Skiers at Alta and Snowbird were forced to buckle down for the night because Little Cottonwood Canyon was closed Monday due to avalanche dangers.
Officials with the Utah Department of Transportation said SR 210, which was affected by a natural avalanche, is expected to open Tuesday morning by 8 a.m.
The road was closed Monday morning as crews worked to remove overwhelming amounts of snow — at least 30 inches or more. That, coupled with strong winds, made for some dangerous conditions. A natural avalanche occurred as the canyon was set to reopen, spilling snow across the road.
Both Alta and Snowbird were under interlodge protocol for portions of the evening, which restricted people from leaving buildings.
