EAST CANYON STATE PARK, Utah – Search and rescue teams found the body of a 25-year-old man who is believed to have drowned in the East Canyon Reservoir.
An official with Utah State Parks and Recreation identified him as Shervin Rayeneh of Salt Lake County.
Authorities said his family reported that he jumped off the boat without a life vest. Rayeneh then struggled to get back on the boat before going under the water.
According to Utah Parks and Recreation Lt. Eric Stucki, the family and other boaters in the area looked for Rayeneh before they called 911.
Weber County Search and Rescue, Summit County Search and Rescue and Morgan County Search and Rescue were all called to assist, according to Utah Parks.
Search and rescue looked on land, dive teams searched in the reservoir, and a helicopter and drones covered the area. They also used side-scan sonar and an underwater remote operated vehicle. Crews discovered Rayeneh’s body just after 10 p.m. Sunday in 150-foot-deep water.
“The Utah Division of Parks and Recreation extends our condolences to the family and friends impacted by this incident,” according to an official statement.
