Woman Hospitalized After Fire Involving Oxygen Concentrator

HOLLADAY, Utah – A woman is in the hospital, and she and a family member have been displaced following a fire caused by an oxygen machine, according to Unified Fire Authority.
The fire happened at approximately 11 p.m. Monday at a townhouse in the area of 6044 South and 2000 East.
When crews arrived at the scene, they found the second story of a unit on fire, authorities said. The unit is now uninhabitable.

The blaze was contained mostly to one room, but the room contained an oxygen concentrator, which ignited in the heat.
“We do know that (the injured woman) had injuries that were fairly serious in nature and was immediately transported to a nearby hospital,” said Unified Fire spokesman Matthew McFarland. “Crews were able to quickly get the fire under control, though.”
The fire also caused smoke damage to the home. The adjacent townhouses were not affected.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
