WEBER COUNTY, Utah – Even in peaceful places with natural beauty, terrible things can happen.
Early Saturday morning, while it was still dark outside, a truck went off the side of the dirt road in Middle Fork near Huntsville in Weber County.
It rolled several times on its approximately 60-foot fall.
Seven people were in the truck.
All seven were thrown out as it rolled.
“Two of them have succumbed to their injuries here on scene,” said Lt. Cortney Ryan with the Weber County Sheriff’s Office. “We don’t know yet what may have been the factor, if it was speed or alcohol or what the factors may be involved in the accident.”
The other five people in the truck were taken to a hospital.
Some of them had to be flown by medical helicopter because their injuries were so severe.
“Generally, with seven people in a vehicle that’s seated for five, probably a couple of them weren’t buckled in,” said Ryan.
There are several cabins in the area and Ryan thinks the group may have been staying nearby.
At some point early this morning, they decided to leave.
On their way down the mountain, for some reason, the truck left the dirt road.
The Sheriff’s Office has not released the names of the people involved.
As of Saturday afternoon, detectives were still notifying family members.
Ryan says the age range of the group is from 16 years old to someone in their 50’s.
“I don’t know if they were related or anything like that at this time,” said Ryan.
