Hazmat Crews Work Quickly After Fuel Spills From Semi-Truck In West Valley City

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – A crash involving a truck and a semi-truck overnight lead to a huge hazardous materials cleanup project.
The incident at approximately 1 a.m. Tuesday near 3200 West and California Ave.
Crews on scene said the collision tore a 5-inch hole into one of the semi-trucks large tanks, dumping nearly 100 gallons of fuel onto the road.
Hazmat crews used a kitty litter-like substance to absorb the fuel and then deployed a high-tech pump that quickly removed flammable materials from the road.
The health department was also on scene to ensure more fuel didn’t spill into the sewer system.
