SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The state announced it is offering grants to homeowners so they can convert their wood-burning stoves to gas or electric.
The Utah Legislature provided $9 million in funding to the Utah Department of Environmental Quality to continue the popular conversion program as a way to improve Utah’s air, according to a statement from the DEQ.
Homeowners can receive up to $4,000 to pay for the conversion, according to the DEQ, depending on their income level. Registration begins Sept. 3 at stoves.utah.gov.
The program will launch this year for portions of Salt Lake and Davis counties and will be extended to other areas along the Wasatch Front in 2020.
