Police Investigating After Shot Fired Call, Home Invasion In Millcreek

Sep 9, 2019, 1:26 PM | Updated: 1:27 pm

MILLCREEK, Utah – Officers on Monday determined there was a shooting after they responded to a call and found shell casings, authorities said.

The incident happened in the area of 4200 South and Normandie Place.

Unified Police said they received a 911 call at approximately 7:45 a.m. from a woman who claimed her boyfriend had been shot, had a possible broken arm and was taken by men. The 911 caller was not at the scene when officers arrived, nor was the caller’s boyfriend.

Authorities said the woman made the call as she was driving her boyfriend away from the scene. She did not mention the home invasion.

The homeowner told KSL TV that he was home time of the shooting, but he left for a pack of cigarettes. When he returned to his house, the street was blocked off by police tape.

“I was asleep,”homeowner Darrin Mann said. “I was in my room with my dogs and woke up to yelling, and then heard gunfire.”

Police took three individuals into custody for questioning. Mann said those questioned were guests staying at his house, including his friend who had a confrontation with the shooter.

Mann said this was not the first time the two had argued, and the shooter and his girlfriend were not invited into the home.

A nearby elementary school was put on a temporary lock-down while authorities responded.

“At this point we don’t believe there’s a threat to the community,” said UPD Det. Kevin Mallory. ” … Once it became under control, we released that lock-down.”

He said a police presence remained at the school to ensure the children’s safety.

Police obtained a search warrant for the residence. However, as of noon Monday, they had not located a weapon, and detectives were still working to determine who fired the shot.
