ROOSEVELT, Utah – A crossing guard was seriously injured Thursday after she was hit by a teenage driver who failed to yield, authorities said.
According to the Roosevelt City Police Department, the crash happened in the area of 300 West 200 North at approximately 7:50 a.m.
A 16-year-old driving a 1997 Mazda Sedan failed to yield at a crosswalk and struck Susan Knorr, 70, who was thrown several feet, according to police. Knorr sustained serious head and leg injuries. The child she was escorting across the road was not injured.
“The crossing lights were functioning and Knorr was equipped with a handheld stop sign, cones and emergency colored outerwear,” according to a Facebook post from Roosevelt police. “The early morning sun may have been a factor in the accident.”
The Kings Peak Elementary PTO Facebook page put out a call for donations to help Knorr.
“Our PTO has started accepting donating for Susan and we want to spread the word,” according to a post. “She will have a lengthy recovery and will be out of work for quite a while.”
The PTO page asked that donations be sent by Venmo to @Katie-Shober.*
Knorr’s condition is unknown at this time.
