SARATOGA SPRINGS, Utah – Students at Lake Mountain Middle school are enjoying their new school, which opened its doors Wednesday after construction delays set it back just over a month.
For the last month, students have been learning online. While they now have a home base, the online academics will continue.
“Online learning is really part of the 21st century learning,” said Kimberly Bird with the Alpine School District. “The teachers will continue to use the canvas system.”

The difference now is students have physical classrooms and in-person teachers — as well as a chance to learn among their peers.
“It’s new, so we can build the foundation of the school,” said eighth-grader Mayli Wright, who is a student body officer.
However, there is still unfinished business — from the gymnasium to the kitchen to road work. The building currently has its temporary fire clearance, but the school itself likely won’t be complete until January.
Currently, a maximum of 1,200 students can take classes inside Lake Mountain Middle School. Once everything is complete, though, the building will be able to accommodate 1,500 students.
“We literally have a wall that separates the usable side versus the unusable side,” Bird said.
The roads to get to school are still a bit bumpy. Founders Boulevard is a work in progress where the city still needs to lay pavement. In the meantime, parents are asked to utilize the bus system for their kids rather than driving them to school to the school.
