Community Rallies Around Family Who Lost 10-Year-Old Girl

HERRIMAN, Utah — Community members tied pink ribbons and painted pumpkins pink to support members of a Utah family after their 10-year-old daughter suddenly died last week.
Neighbors and friends painted over 200 pumpkins to honor 10-year-old Lauren Haaga, who died last Friday after being found unresponsive in a bathtub the day before.
“We had several different wards and the little girls to come paint these pumpkins and then it was the older youth that delivered these pumpkins throughout the neighborhood so that everyone has a couple pink pumpkins on their porch,” said family friend and neighbor Chelsea Ware.
Family members said Lauren had been feeling sick and took a bath to feel better on Oct. 4.
Her mother later found her face down in the tub, and Lauren was transported via medical helicopter to Primary Children’s Hospital in critical condition. She died the next day.
“All of us can’t help but think, having kids the same age or similar ages what it might be like to have this hole in your life and your home,” Ware said. “Lauren was someone that was loving and kind and just got the message of we just need to be kind and loving to each other.”
Funeral services are planned for this weekend and the street to her home was lit with luminaries to honor Lauren.
