Hiker who fell from Angels Landing in Zion National Park identified

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Zion National Park officials on Friday released the identity of a hiker who fell to her death from one of the park’s most popular areas on Nov. 20.
In a statement, authorities confirmed they found the body of Savannah McTague, 19, of Maine, on Nov. 21. She was a consession employee of Xanterra and was working at Zion Lodge.
According to the statement, McTague had been hiking on Angels Landing with two colleagues the afternoon she fell. She was reported missing at approximately 5:30 p.m. by her colleagues who suspected she had fallen. Park rangers immediately began a search and rescue operation, and they discovered McTague’s body at first light the next day.
The injuries sustained were consistent with a high elevation fall, officials stated.
“Our deepest condolences go out to the McTague family and friends,” ZNP Superintendent Jeff Bradybaugh said. “Savannah was part of the Zion family. This fatality has been especially hard on the Zion Lodge and park staff.”
