Postal Service Asks Utahns To Clear Ice, Snow After 100+ Falls Last Year

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Officials with United States Postal Service in Utah asked residents to clear ice and snow away from walkways and mailboxes as winter weather approaches the state.
Last year, 112 postal carriers were injured in Utah due to unforeseen slips, falls or trips. Officials said many of the injuries were due to unsafe or hazardous conditions on their routes.
“Winter storms make mail delivery very challenging for our carriers,” said Salt Lake City Postmaster Steve Chaus. “Clearing a path to your mailbox will go a long way toward keeping our carriers safe and ensuring mail delivery each day.”
Chaus said carriers make an average of 600 deliveries a day and asked Utahns to keep a path clear for rural-type mailboxes, allowing carriers to drive up, deliver mail and drive away safely.
“We greatly appreciate the support of our customers in this endeavor,” he said. “Your carrier will thank you.”
