Homeless Man Killed In Auto-Pedestrian Crash Near New Resource Center, Police Say

SOUTH SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – A man died from injuries he suffered after he was hit by a vehicle near a new homeless resource center, according to officials with the South Salt Lake City Police Department.
The man appeared to have been crossing 3300 South near 950 West after 6:30 p.m. Tuesday when an eastbound sedan struck him, according to South Salt Lake City Police Executive Officer Gary Keller.
Detectives were working to identify the man, whom Keller said was believed to be homeless.
The collision happened within roughly a half-block of the new homeless resource center, which recently opened its doors.
“With this new shelter in this area, people just have to be very, very careful, vigilant and really watch the road,” Keller said. “In the middle of a block, it’s almost impossible with the low light to see anybody in bright clothing.”
Keller said investigators believed the man was between the ages of 40 and 50 and did not have any identification on him.
He was transported to the hospital in extremely critical condition and was later pronounced dead, police said.
Keller said the driver did not appear to be impaired and was not believed to have been speeding.
Detectives were expected to continue to try to identify the unknown man into Wednesday.
