Authorities Identify Victim In Deadly Taylorsville Crash; 1 Man Still In Critical Condition

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah – Police are investigating an overnight crash that killed one man and sent another to the hospital in critical condition, authorities said.
The crash happened at the intersection of 2700 West and 4700 South at approximately 11 p.m. Monday.

Unified Police Det. Kevin Hansen said a vehicle traveling west on 4700 South crashed into another vehicle traveling south on 2700 West. The impact was so significant that it moved the southbound vehicle between 150 – 200 feet.
The driver of the westbound vehicle was later identified as Andrea Lane Miller, 39. She was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on a handful of charges, including automobile homicide, DUI involving serious injury or death, and failure to remain at an accident involving a death.
According to a probable cause affidavit, witnesses said the light at the intersection was red at the time Miller drove through it. After the crash, she reportedly tried to leave.
Witnesses said they heard her saying, “I need to leave,” and “I can’t do this,” according to arresting documents. An Adult Probation and Parole officer who arrived at the site of the crash was able to stop her from leaving the scene.
Officials believe both speed and impairment were factors in the crash.
The driver of the southbound vehicle, identified as Ryan Muhlestein, 25, died as a result of the crash. The passenger is currently in critical condition.
The victims’ identities have not been released.
