Murray Dealership Forced To Close After Major Break-In

MURRAY, Utah – Police are searching for suspects who stole five vehicles and keys and titles for an additional 20-30 vehicles from a Murray car dealership.

The incident happened Thursday night at M3 Auto at 257 West 4800 South.

“I mean maybe a car getting stolen I can understand, but to come and notice that five cars are missing, that’s a huge blow,” said Mark Bass, owner of M3 Auto. “You feel violated, that’s for sure.”

Surveillance video from across the street showed how it happened — the suspects backed a pick-up truck into a garage door, denting it and creating a space for them to get into the business. From there, they broke into the office and stole the keys.

They first took off with a red Chevy Silverado but came back for the rest hours later.

“So the cars that they took were parked up here,” said Bass. “We had an Audi and a Chrysler PT Cruiser, the Silverado, an MDX and a Ford Focus.”

However, Bass said the suspects didn’t just get away with keys for the five vehicles — they stole the keys and the titles for every single car on the lot. Bass estimates between 20-30 titles and sets of keys were stolen.

“As of right now we have to close, just because we don’t have keys and we don’t have titles. We don’t have any way to operate or sell vehicles,” Bass said.

Bass has had to move or disable the rest of the vehicles he had for sale and said it could be weeks or months before they can reopen.

“Of course hindsight is 20/20, but we’re working to make sure that we’re doing everything to secure the lot and make it safe so that it doesn’t happen again,” Bass said.

Anyone who has information about the break-in or spots one of the stolen vehicles was asked to call the Murray Police Department at (801) 264-2673.
