PARK CITY, Utah – A Wasatch County School District teacher’s aide was booked into jail after police said she invited students to drink alcohol at her home and encouraged a female student to have sexual contact with a male student.

Officials with the Summit County Sheriff’s Office said 33-year-old Ashley Morgan was booked on charges of child abuse, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and witness tampering in connection to the alleged incident.

The 17-year-old female student told police Morgan, who was a former worker at the Utah Division of Child and Family Services, invited her and two male students to her Summit County residence on Sept. 20, 2019.

The student told investigators Morgan then gave the students alcohol and encouraged her to have sexual contact with one of the males.

In a separate report made to Summit County Sheriff’s Office officials in Nov. 2019, Morgan denied the incident occurred.

Investigators said Morgan texted the female student and told her to deny being at Morgan’s house and that nothing happened if questioned by police.

Officials said Morgan then threatened to release personal information she had obtained on the student as a DCFS caseworker if she reported Morgan to authorities.

Morgan was booked into the Summit County Jail on Tuesday.

The Wasatch County School District released the following statement on the incident:

“Earlier today, a Wasatch County School District teacher’s aide was arrested following an investigation by the Summit County Sheriff’s Office. The employee has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

“The District can confirm the employee, who was hired at the beginning of this year, passed the extensive background check standard for all new employees. As this is an ongoing investigation, the District cannot make any further comments. Any parents with specific concerns about this case should contact their principal or law enforcement.”
