SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – One in three women in Utah experiences anxiety or depression during or after their pregnancy, according to 2016-2018 Utah data from the Utah Pregnancy Risk Assessment.
That’s why the Utah Department of Health teamed up with YWCA Utah on Tuesday to announce a new resource for mothers.
It’s an online database called the Maternal Mental Health Referral Network, designed to help mothers access care and treatment for perinatal and postpartum depression and anxiety.
It allows women, parents and families to search for providers by county and insurance and offers a wide range of specialties such as certified midwives, doulas, psychotherapists, OB/GYNs, lactation consultants and more. These providers have been specifically trained in maternal mental health screening and treatment.
YWCA spokeswoman Madelyn Gardner said this resource is a direct result of funding secured during last year’s legislative session for maternal mental health, following the passage of SCR 11 during the 2018 legislative session.
