2 In Custody After Deadly Stabbing In West Valley City

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah –  Two people are in custody following a deadly stabbing in West Valley City Tuesday night, police said.

West Valley City Police Deputy Chief Kent Stokes said officers responded to a 911 call at approximately 9:45.

“We got a call from a hospital, Jordan Valley West, that a 26-year-old male had come in with multiple stab wounds,” he said.

Police identified the victim as Troy Carter, 26, who died from the injuries hours later.

Officials discovered Carter and two other individuals had given a ride to the two suspects, Colton Kloepfer, 20, and Maison Pullman, 19, from Delton Lanes in West Valley City to Peachwood Park in the area of 4000 South and 3600 West.

“They took them to that area, wanted them out of the car, and they wouldn’t get out of the car,” Stokes said. “So they started fighting.”

He said it’s believed the incident happened just outside the car, where Carter was stabbed multiple times all over his body.

Witnesses were able to identify the suspects, and authorities found them at a home in the area of 5400 South and 5600 West in Kearns.

“(The) occupants of the vehicle, they all knew each other,” Stokes said. “We had names and stuff to go on right away.”

In exclusive KSL TV video, West Valley City police can be seen executing a search warrant early Wednesday at a home in Kearns where the two suspects were taken into custody. Kloepfer and Pullman were later booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of murder.

“They just kept saying, ‘Come out with your hands up,’ and just kept on yelling through the bull horn,” said one resident who lives on West Pacher Circle near 5600 West in Kearns.

Stokes noted Kloepfer and Pullman are not residents of the home where police found them.

There are no outstanding suspects, but the investigation is ongoing.

“We feel like we have everyone in custody that was involved in this incident,” Stokes said.
