Twins Graduate From Rival High Schools, Embrace Their Differences

Jun 4, 2020, 10:53 PM

SYRACUSE, Utah – Two graduates from rival high schools, who seem to be opposites, actually have a lot more in common than you would guess at first glance.

Gabe Edwards just graduated from Syracuse High School, home of the Titans.  He was a student body officer and was into sports and friends.

Hyrum Edwards, on the other hand, just graduated from Clearfield High School, home of the Falcons. He was a senior class officer who chose the school for academics and diversity.

“I always really loved school,” said Hyrum. “I always really loved reading.”

“I’m blonde. He has brown hair,” said Gabe. “I’m straight, he’s gay. And we have a lot of different interests.”

While Hyrum and Gabe could not seem more opposite, even in physical appearance, there is one more thing you should know about them.

They are twins.

“Hyrum and Gabe are our babies,” said their mother, Becky Edwards. “They’re as different as twin boys can be.”

Becky said people find it hard to believe. Two boys at different schools, with different friends and different hobbies. They do share the same passion – making other kids feel loved and included.

“You have this ability to help other students feel like they have a place in the school, which is kind of the main reason I became an officer,” said Hyrum.

“I became an officer one, to help other people because I’ve been in their place and it’s lonely and it’s not fun. And two, because it’s just the best thing ever,” said Gabe.

While Gabe and Hyrum have taken diverging paths in life, their differences are what also make them close.

Closer than brothers and more like twins.

“They have each other’s backs. They want what’s best for each other,” said Becky. “They cheer each other on. And they really are good kids.”
