BYU Fall Semester Will Be Hybrid Of In-Person, Remote Classes

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Brigham Young University announced its plans for the upcoming fall semester.

In a statement released Tuesday, the university outlined its plan for hybrid classes starting with in-person learning beginning Aug. 31. The in-person classes will continue until the Thanksgiving break, after which learning will continue remotely.

“Students who go home for Thanksgiving are encouraged to finish the semester at home to prevent potential increase of COVID-19 in the campus community in December,” according to BYU.

The university noted that the decision is subject to change “depending on trends in disease prevalence and guidance from state and local government.”

There have been no decisions for the winter semester yet.

BYU also announced that students and employees on campus are required to face coverings in all classroom settings, inside all university buildings, during interactions with campus guests and customer, in other areas where directed, and when physical distancing is difficult to maintain.

“The safety and protection of the BYU community is our first priority,” according to the university’s statement. “Student’s in high-risk categories, including older adults and the immunocompromised, are strongly encouraged to not be on campus during fall semester. Remote coursework options are available for these students.”
