SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah – A Utah couple said they are lucky to be alive Tuesday after their tree burst right into their bedroom.
Steve Aten said he is holding his wife a little tighter after the storm brought the tree crashing down Tuesday.
“The crash we heard was actually the light hitting the floor,” he said.
A couple in South Salt Lake woke up to a tree falling on them.

While sound asleep, an 8-foot-long intruder came crashing through their roof.
“Like, it all was in slow motion,” Aten said.
Had the tree landed a couple of feet to the right, it could’ve possibly killed someone.
“I should’ve died 10 or 12 years ago maybe,” Aten said.
It’s not Aten’s first brush with death. He fought off a form of leukemia 12 years ago. Within the last two weeks, he got off dialysis for a kidney disease.
“I am living on borrowed time, so this doesn’t bug me,” Aten said.
And by Tuesday evening, he had already patched up the roof.
“The size of that and how heavy that piece of wood is — you just gotta feel lucky,” he said.
When living on what you call borrowed time. It will take a lot more than a tree to burst your bubble, even if it burst through your roof.
“It’s just a house, you know,” Aten said. “I got my family, got my kids, my grandkids. That is what life is all about.”
