New COVID Scams Seek To Skim Your Info

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – With another month of the pandemic comes another time for scammers to try to fool people into handing over their personal information.
The latest scam is coming in the form of people buying bogus COVID-19 tests.
“We’re seeing more people falling for fake COVID-19 tests,” said Britta Clark with the Better Business Bureau in Salt Lake City. “People who have been victims of this scam have either received a robocall or saw an ad that directed them to a website that looks like a clinic or medical supply company offering COVID-19 tests.”
That site is fake, Clark said.
People who are purchasing home COVID-19 kits from these crooks either receive ones that don’t work accurately, or they don’t receive anything at all – and the scammers now have their name and credit card information.
The best option if you want a test is to talk to your doctor.
If you do buy a personal test kit, make sure it’s been approved by the FDA and that you’re buying it from a secure website. Just look for the padlock icon in the address bar of your browser.
Never share your personal information with strangers.
