Authorities Investigating String Of Car Burglaries In Sandy Neighborhood

SANDY, Utah – A string of car break-ins has Sandy residents frustrated as the neighborhood has become a target for thieves.

Authorities said nearly two dozen vehicles have been hit just this week by what appears to be the same two or three men.

The good news is that with so many cameras on the street, neighbors felt like police have a good chance of tracking down the perpetrators.

The McDonald family’s surveillance camera captured a clear video of a man they said rummaged through a van parked in their driveway.

“We can see he took something from our security footage,” Jenny McDonald said. “But we can’t tell what it was.”

Police are looking for the man in the video as well as another man believed to be with him. The McDonalds said this is the first time they’ve been hit.

“It’s really frustrating that people feel like they can get in and just take what they want,” McDonald said.

Just down the street from the McDonald home, resident Corey Underwood isn’t taking any chances.

“I bet in the last two years, my daughter’s car has gotten broken into four or five times,” he said. “It’s super frustrating. I mean, I just put an alarm system on my truck because of it.”

The burglars move quickly, and they don’t smash windows. They look for cars that are unlocked, and then they go from there.

Neighbors in Falcon Park are sticking together, and they hope to stop the thieves.

“As neighbors, we watch out for each other,” McDonald said. “So it’s really sad this is happening.”
