What To Stream On Disney+: ‘WandaVision,’ ‘Falcon & The Winter Soldier’

Feb 12, 2021, 9:08 AM | Updated: 9:10 am

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – With all the different streaming services available, and with so many program choices on each service, it’s getting harder and harder to know what to watch and where and how to find it.

KSL NewsRadio’s Andy Farnsworth, who hosts the Fan Effect Podcast and covers movies and pop culture for KSL Today, has some streaming recommendations for you and your family so you can spend less time searching and more time watching.

Here are a few recommendations for Disney+.

WandaVision

This first show may be an obvious choice but no matter, but Andy says he’s definitely recommending “WandaVision.”

“It’s been almost 2 full years since ‘Avengers: Endgame’ was in theaters, and fans like me have been itching to see more stories from the Marvel Cinematic Universe,” Andy says. “We should have had some content in 2020 but, you know, coronavirus.”

That wait for new content is finally over with the release of the nine-episode weekly series featuring a couple of lesser-known Avengers from the movies, Wanda Maximoff and the android Vision. The last time Vision was on screen, we saw him being killed by Thanos in “Avengers: Infinity War.”

So one of the big questions going into the show is: How is he alive?

Probably the most unique thing about “WandaVision” is that the episodes are presented in sitcom format for the most part. Each one has represented a different sitcom style based on the time period: The 50s, like “I Love Lucy”; the 60s, like “Bewitched”; the 70s, like “The Brady Bunch”; and the 80s, like “Family Ties.”

And that’s just what’s been aired so far. Episode 6 is the newest one as Friday.

“The biggest question I’ve received from friends and viewers has been, “Just what the heck is going on?” Andy says. “So be warned that it will seem pretty weird for the first probably three episodes, but stick with it! It’s kind of a mystery and puzzle for you as the viewer to solve, and I promise, they do start answering questions eventually.”

“I personally have been loving it,” he added.

Content-wise, “WandaVision” has been pretty harmless, and it’s definitely OK for your teens and pre-teens. The younger the kid, the less they’ll really understand what is happening.

The more knowledge you have of sitcoms of old, the more funny you’ll find the homages in each episode, including a unique-to-each-episode theme song (written by the couple who created all the songs for “Frozen”).

“Marvel is finally back, my friends!” Andy says.

Falcon & The Winter Soldier

Just a few weeks from now brings us some more Marvel on Disney+, as “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier” begins its run on March 19.

After the events of “Avengers: Endgame,” the mantle of Captain America needs to be passed on to someone else. But will it be one of the people Cap himself knew best, or will it be someone else that the U.S. government wants to choose?

“While we wait for “Black Widow” to finally hit theaters, we’ve got some exciting shows to tide us over,” Andy says.

The Muppet Show

Finally, if you and the family are looking for a bigger volume of episodes to watch right now, Andy suggests checking out the original “Muppet Show.”

“You can’t beat the classics,” he says.

All five seasons of the original “Muppet Show” from the late 70s arrives on Disney+ on Feb. 19.

You can stream Disney+ on your computer, and its app is available on all streaming boxes and most smart TVs. It is a subscription service and will cost you $6.99 a month.
