WASHINGTON CITY, Utah – A Montana woman driving the wrong way on an Interstate 15 off-ramp in Washington City was arrested Sunday morning after a deputy said he found methamphetamine hidden in several peanut butter jars in her car.

According to a probable cause statement, 55-year-old Cynthia Ceynar was booked into jail on several charges, including possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana and driving the wrong way on an enclosed roadway.

The court document said the Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputy stopped Ceynar around 8 a.m. Sunday.

The deputy said she was acting nervously, grinding her jaw and her pupils did not respond to his flashlight.

The deputy noticed she kept glancing nervously at a duffel bag in the rear seat, the document said. During a search, the deputy said he found a large torch lighter, glass pipe and suspected meth crystals in one of her pockets.

The deputy handcuffed her and searched the vehicle, where the document said he found more suspected drugs in the front seat.

“While searching the rear seating area and the large duffel bag I located three large containers of peanut butter. These jars of peanut butter appeared to be sealed but I could see the peanut butter through the clear plastic container had been manipulated and smeared around, which would not be consistent with a sealed/fresh jar,” the probable cause statement said.

When the deputy pulled back the paper seal, he said it was easy to tell that the jar had been repacked with peanut butter. He also noticed a paper towel under a thin layer of peanut butter.

“After removing the first layer and the paper towel I could see a large gallon-sized Zip-Lock bag containing a large amount of a white crystalline substance consistent in appearance to Methamphetamine. All three of these jars had a large gallon-sized bag of this suspected Methamphetamine inside them and a Fourth jar containing the same was located on the front passenger’s floorboard of the vehicle,” the deputy said in the document.

The document said Ceynar admitted that the meth belonged to her. She told the deputy that she had traveled from Montana to Los Angeles to buy the meth with $12,000 she saved from previous drug sales. Ceynar told the deputy she planned to go back to Montana to sell more meth, according to the document.

The deputy arrested her and booked her into the Washington County Purgatory Correctional Facility.

The document said the deputy found just over two pounds of methamphetamine.
