SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Following news that Texas is lifting its mask mandates, Target announced it is continuing to require face coverings inside all its stores.

The retail chain on Tuesday updated its website to assure customers that precautions are remaining in place.

“We’ll continue to listen to guidance from the CDC to keep our team and guests safe,” according to Target’s site.

The store noted that its locations have invested in expanded safety, social distancing and rigorous cleaning routines.

According to Target, this includes:

  • Frequently disinfecting and cleaning stores throughout the day, focusing on high touch areas like checklanes.
  • Stationing a team member at each store entrance to clean and disinfect carts and baskets between each use.
  • Frequently cleaning each checklane and providing hand sanitizer for guests.
  • Installing Plexiglass partitions throughout stores, including at checklanes, Starbucks, cafes, guest services and more.
  • Providing team members with face masks and gloves and requiring our team to wear face coverings while at work.
  • Requiring guests to wear face coverings while shopping in our stores.
  • Actively monitoring and metering guest traffic to promote social distancing and ensure a safe shopping environment.
  • Reminding guests about social distancing by using signs, floor stickers and audio messages in stores.
  • Keeping fitting rooms closed temporarily, though guests may still use the fitting rooms for nursing if they’d like.

Target also stated that masks will be provided to customers if they don’t already have one to wear inside.

The store also suggested customers use mobile payment options at the self-checkout line and making pre-trip shopping reservations at target.com/line.

“We’ve also coordinated our stores, distribution centers and suppliers so that the items our guests need most are fast-tracked through our supply chain,” according to Target. “We’ll continue to do all we can to help navigate these uncertain times.”
