Probation Officer Competes In Mrs. Utah America Pageant

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – An agent with the Utah Department of Corrections Adult Probation and Parole office in Salt Lake City is set to take part in the upcoming Mrs. Utah America Pageant in North Ogden.
When Agent Randi Carter is not working to rehabilitate parolees within the Utah Correctional system, she’s in a classroom or out in the field training other adult probation and parole agents who are new to the job.
“I really love to inspire people, I want to make really balanced agents so they can build rapport with our clientele and help them be successful,” said Agent Carter.
Since Sept. 2020, she has taken on a new role as Mrs. West Jordan.

Carter said her two titles are distinctive but work together.
“I’m bringing something different because most people in law enforcement probably don’t run for a pageant and it’s healthy to have both and show our community that law enforcement are people too,” she said.
Working at AP&P has also been a unique experience for her.
“It a male-dominant job, I think under 20% of us are female that work here, and so it’s extremely rare,” said Carter, who is passionate about her job and has been with the department of corrections for 17 years.
Her role as Mrs. West Jordan is also important to her and participating in the Mrs. Utah America pageant and raising awareness for mental health ties it all together as part of her pageant platform.
“My platform is ‘Fade the Filter.’ It’s about social media use, doing it in a healthy manner and in moderation, and recognize when it’s affecting your mental health. I’m really focused on being a mental health advocate,” said Carter.
In fact, she runs the wellness program at AP&P.
She said her most important title is “Mom.” She has three young boys and a husband of 13 years. Carter understands how crucial it is to set a positive example for her kids and others.
“When you put on that sash, it’s very powerful and you’re the only one. People – they are looking at you, it is a little bit like law enforcement. When I’m out in the community and I’m in this uniform people are watching me and I have a certain expectation. Same thing with the pageant role,” said Carter.
The Mrs. Utah America pageant is this Saturday at Barker Park Amphitheater.
